Content does NOT mean lazy

For this first post, I shall define what I mean by "contented". Contented means to be satisfied with your current situation. Satisfied with the way things are. That sounds great, right? So . . . relaxing. I have a hard time, however, being "satisfied". I'm always looking for ways to be better, comparing my children to others, wanting what I can't have, and of course there is always that 20 extra pounds to lose. How does a busy woman raising 3 kids, running a home and being married to an active man manage to be "satisfied"?
Being A Contented Mom does NOT mean we can be Lazy. Life is a juggling act- if we drop the ball in any one area all the balls in the air come tumbling down. We need to be constantly striving to be better people, raise healthier happier children, be a better spouse, friend, daughter, mother and whatever else we are. We need to have goals and to strive for those goals.
I've decided that for me, being a Contented Mom will not be about giving up and accepting the status quo, but an appreciation for the process. A decision to have goals, but to enjoy the steps to reach those goals. Instead of always looking forward, I need to glance from side to side and occasionally behind, to see where I am and where I have been in addition to where I am going. It is so true that our children grow up so fast- we blink and they are gone. My goal is to raise happy, functioning adults that contribute postively to society. Worthy goals. However, I need to be content to watch them, slowly, in the process. Yes, I want them to go to college, but I am happy to sit here with them right now and glue stars onto a poster, or help them write their names.
I will use this blog to enhance my contentment. Things that make my everyday a little more satisfying, or ideas to help me to focus on goals. I am content to let my life be, and to embrace the everyday.
